"Down Holiday Road" Plein Air painting

Spent a couple hours Plein air painting. Thanks to my dad for leading me to this road. There are a few places I think I will come back to paint near this area. Beautiful day. :). Then was lucky enough to meet my wife and kids at the park afterwards!

Zionesville Plein Air Paintout, "A Day at the Conrad"

Over the weekend I attended the Zionesville Plein Air Paintout (Zionesville, Indiana) and had a great time! I couldn't ask for better weather nor a better spot.  I choose a garden, Tom Conrad's garden...hence "A Day at the Conrad".  The light that played on the grass caught my eye. I was very happy with the finished painting and was lucky enough to get a critique from Jerry Points  (http://www.jerrypointspaintings.com/).

Commissioned work for the Boone County Historical Society

"Boone County Courthouse #1"
Ink and Pencil
8" x 10"

"Boone County Courthouse #2"
Ink and Pencil
8" x 10"

These drawings were commissioned by the Boone County Historical Society in Indiana.
There will be a 100 Year Dedication for the current courthouse in Lebanon, Indiana on the 4th of July.
These are the first two of four courthouses built in the 1800's....of which there is no historical records nor photos, just a few memories of those that lived during that period. I learned a lot about my hometown and had a blast working on this project!

"Berne Farm"

"Berne Farm"
Oil

Here is another from a photo taken in Berne, Indiana.
This was done in about 2 1/2 hours.

"Horses Grazing in Berne"

"Horses Grazing in Berne"
8" x 10"
Oil

Over the memorial day weekend I set aside a few hours to paint :)
My reference was a photo I had taken in Berne, IN with my wife a few weeks ago.
I spent 1 1/2 hours on this painting...challenging myself to use paint in a limited time with limited details.
My goal is to learn how to "leave it be".  I used a limited palette and only 2 brush sizes.
I had a blast with it and learned much :)

"An Indiana Road" In Watercolor

"An Indiana Road"
Watercolor

I may add ink to this. I am also planning to take another stab at it.

After viewing this on my blog I decided to crop it a bit, and was amazed with how it affected the composition and overall feel of the piece.

"An Indiana Road"

"An Indiana Road"
Pen and Ink
5" x 7"

Inspired by a photo a friend took near Park County. Thank you Mindy McCutchan!
I am also currently painting this scene in watercolor.

One thing I am noticing while posting these drawings is that when you upload, Blogspot's compression creates some ugly areas in the images. Very annoying. You can see this around the telephone wires...this is not an issue with the original image before being uploaded.
